The Dynamic Data Center: 10 Keys to Designing for Flexibility

    by Kayla Poole

In our last blog supporting the new “Flexibility and Sustainability for the Dynamic Data Center” white paper by ServerTech’s own Marc Cram, we discussed the relationship between Moore’s Law and the resulting increased availability of data and its immediate consumption. In the first blog in this series, we talked about PUE and its contribution to the sustainable data center. For this last blog, we will shift our attention to the mission-critical facility itself and discuss flexible features that support sustainable design.

The Dynamic Data Center: Today’s Growing Demands

    by Kayla Poole

In our last blog, we addressed the role of PUE and its relationship to flexible, sustainable data centers. If you missed it, you can follow this link here to get caught up on the series. Today, we are going to turn our attention to some of the new challenges facing data center operators, specifically around the seemingly continuous propagation of technology and data. While Moore’s Law and consolidation efforts have worked to ‘densify’ the data center, new applications and edge computing are working to offset the trend. As mentioned in our previous blog, the industry as a whole has made tremendous advances in getting the average data center PUE closer to 1.0 but the recent technological advances have challenged operators.

It’s Server Technology Here, Giving Thanks

    by Sandi Renden

nd here we are, another year under our belts. Almost. As we head into the last month of 2018, it is time once again to take a moment from our regular blog posts to reflect and give thanks. It has been a great year not only for Servertech, but for technology in general. It would be insincere to pretend otherwise: we just love technology. Not only are we a company of dyed-in-the wool, full-on electro-dorks, but we have a little love affair with the technology that we power, too. We spent some time this week musing about what our ServerTech PDU’s are doing out in the world, and it occurred to us that they may just be powering some of the most amazing technological advancements that took place in 2018.

    Halloween, Part 11?

    by RJ Tee

If you’re Laurie Strode, Halloween isn’t exactly happy with Michael Myers creeping around – it’s more like a day of reckoning. What’s worse, poor Ms. Strode has had to wait around 40 years for a chance at revenge - and a decent sequel. At Server Technology, we are committed to not having you wait that long to get what you want. If you’re sensitive to jump scares or gore, no need to worry about this blog. Server Technology doesn’t have a frightening number of franchise reboots or disemboweled corpses to present today. We don’t have to retool our mission because we’ve always been focused on delivering power efficiently and precisely. Over the years, we’ve been getting smarter about our PDUs and power strips, as our industry recognition shows. Not to worry that you’ll have to bear with a lesser replacement, muttering all the while that it’s not as good as the original.

For the second in a series about Servertech’s lifecycle approach to award-winning customer service and support, we would like to talk about the next steps in the process of selecting just the right PDU for you. In our previous post on this topic, we discussed our Rack PDU Selection Wizard and its uncanny, often magical ability to help you select the right PDU type for your application.

Remote Data Management and Reporting is the cornerstone of reliability

    by Josh Schaap

Picture this: you run a state-of-the-art 5.5MW, 34,000 square foot data center with more than 450 cabinets and power capacities up to 600W per square foot. In that situation, issues such as security, reliability and accessibility are at the top of your list of priorities, meaning every component in your data center needs to be 100 percent reliable, every time. That’s exactly what one of Server Technology’s clients, Nevada-based Cobalt Data Center, faced with its Las Vegas Tier III multi-tenant data center. Cobalt supports a diverse customer base by helping its customers analyze, measure and control power usage so they can, in turn, perform better capacity planning.
